Bonnycastle Circle
New River Gorge
Update: The forecasts are calling for rain Saturday morning so I decided to push the departure back to Saturday at noon. This will allow us to avoid the rain (can’t climb in the rain) and give you guys some time to crank out some homework before we leave.
Dying to climb some splitter cracks?! Come climb the splitter and not so splitter cracks of the New River Gorge this weekend!
The plan is to leave from Bonnycastle Circle on Friday at 6pm and come back to UVA on Sunday after a solid day of climbing. We will stay at the American Alpine Club Campground, which is a short hike to one of the crags we will climb at, the Junkyard Wall. We will also head to Bridge Buttress and the Endless Wall to explore the stellar trad climbing at the New!
You don’t need to know how to trad climb to come. Anyone who can climb 5.8 and up on top rope is welcome to come. This is a great opportunity for anyone wanting to learn how to trad to do so!
I will provide all the group climbing gear (protection, ropes, draws,…), but please bring your own personal climbing gear.
What you need to bring:
-Climbing shoes
-Climbing harness
-Climbing helmet
-Belay device (if you have it)
-Food/money for food
-Water (at least 2 liters)
-Camping gear (tent, sleeping bag/pad,…)
-Rain gear
What the Club Provides:
-Camping fees
-Gas
-Gear if you need it (the gear room is open on Thursday)
