OVERVIEW

Late-September, fall colors peeking out, perfectttt temps to be outside, crisp fall air, having a lovely picnic dinner complete with warm nalgene water, and singing John Denver while watching the vibrant sun dip slowly behind the West Virginia mountains at the “coolest view in the Shenandoah Valley”????? If you imagine this to be your ideal friday night after a long week in classes, you’re in luck!

Big Schloss is by far one of the dopest little rock outcroppings that I’ve run in to in this area and I have been dying to do an overnight there to take full advantage of the 360 degree views for sunset, sunrise and star gazing. Since I figure we’re just trying to chill, I decided that doing the 18 mile loop in two-days would be entirely unnecessary to endure soooooo we will be taking a casual two-mile stroll (2 miles up on Friday and 2 miles back on Saturday) from Wolf Gap Parking Area (about an hour and 45 minutes away from grounds) to the summit where we can camp right next to the lower outcropping (which is like 200 m away from the upper outcropping so basically the same place as the goooood views.)

We’re gonna do BYOD (bring your own dinner (and snacks and breakfast and water and oxygen and whatever else you will need to intake friday afternoon-saturday morn)) bc I live in dorms and can hardly support my own consumption of nutrients much less 7 others. I will supply tents for everyone – but if you all could bop around and get other gear/belongings you may need that would be incredibly awesome :))

Also: I have no vehicle so if we want this to happen, we really need drivers!
-drivers get priority off the waitlist. The club reimburses for gas +50% tip
-drivers need to show up to Echols with a full tank of gas!! And a smile.

Stuff to bring!!
-2 Nalgenes of water (or other size equivalent) idk how much water actually fits in a nalgene so I am unable to supply numerical quantity
-Sleeping bag
-Sleeping pad
-Food! enough for dinner, breakfast and snacks if you need them
-Backpacking backpack
-Musical Instruments!! If you have a guitar or Uke and wanna carry it up, it would be sooooo nice to have some nice music (or speaker if live music isn’t an option)
-Toothbrush/paste if you vibe with that
-camp shoes if you want but not necessary
-raincoat/base layer of some sort/maybe pants – shouldn’t be too cold though
-headlamp
-hiking shoes whooo
