Xc Skiing at White Grass, the Best Place on Earth

OVERVIEW

We’ll head out Friday evening for Cannan Valley and get in a full day of cross country skiing on Saturday at White Grass. It’s my favorite winter spot around with great trails – over 30km of them – and new snow on the way! They have a lots of trails to choose from, including several that are great for beginners. You don’t need any skiing experience at all for this trip. We’ll camp out Friday night and come home after skiing on Saturday. With a good fire and plenty of layers we should be fine. Remember that you won’t be toasty though – it’s winter, and you’ll need lots of clothes to stay warm enough. We’ll come back Saturday evening, unless there’s a car of people who want to see a second day.

The club has some new cross country skis, but we’ll probably need to rent some. The rental fee is $12 for the full day, and there’s a $9 trail fee per person (if we get a group of 8). Plan on being able to pay the 21 dollars (at worst, $24 without group discount and not using club skis), but it’ll be lower if we do use some club skis and split the cost.

You bring: TONS of layers – warm hat, gloves, scarf, fleeces, outer shell, wool socks, ski/waterproof pants, lots of synthetic stuff. You don’t want to be cold all day/night. Also bring water bottles, small daypack, camping gear if you have it, money for ski rentals and for dinner Friday.

Club Provides: gas, camping fees, all meals Saturday, camping gear (sleeping bag, pad, tent, stove), good times, great people, great deal…
