As you may have seen last year, Outdoors at UVA recently instituted a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee to work alongside a DEI chair in the officer corp to ensure that ODC is a space for everyone. Since the club was much smaller last year due to Covid-19, we wanted to reach out again to encourage you to join the DEI committee if you are interested in working towards realizing the organization’s goals of making our club more diverse, approachable, and inclusive. We currently have a small (but awesome!) committee and would love for more of you to join us!
We will be working together to create programs related to diversity, connect with and extend our resources to other organizations on grounds, and implement any other ideas you all may have for making the club more inclusive. We will have bi-weekly or monthly meetings, depending on how many tasks we have, in order to talk about our plans, new ideas, and delegate tasks. This is a great way to get more involved with Outdoors Club in a different way than being in an officer position, as you would have responsibilities specific to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion within the club and would not be required to hold an officer position or fulfill any general officer duties. It is a very flexible engagement and we are open to hearing any means through which those who are passionate about improving representation in outdoor spaces would like to become involved.
